Valentine’s Day is right around the corner and maybe you’re wondering what to say to him…or maybe you’ve never gotten what you wanted on Valentine’s Day…or maybe you’re feeling some weird pressure…
(Celebrating a solo Valentine’s Day – head HERE for my tips!)
Here’s the thing – it’s the worst when you are dating someone you really like, and they let you down during the celebration of love.
Maybe you waited all day for something special to be delivered at work…
Maybe you assumed he was going to take you to a nice, candlelight dinner…
Maybe you expected to at least receive a nice card with some chocolates…
But you waited and wondered, and nothing ever happened.
He probably suggested a night in where you could cuddle and watch a movie, like it was any day of the year. And you went to bed feeling sad and slightly put off.
Ever felt this way on Valentine’s Day? Or any holiday/anniversary/special occasion?
Listen, I’ve worked with hundreds of women and men over the years. And there’s something I hear all the time from MEN who are frustrated because they can never seem to meet the expectations of their partners.
“If I just knew what she wanted I would do it for her.”
“I really wish she would TELL me what she expected, but I’m worried she’ll be offended if I ask…it’s like she thinks I should read her mind.”
“I want her to be happy, but I don’t have a lot of confidence as a romantic.”
I’m not making this up! This is how the average, good guy feels when he can’t live up to your expectations.
But the solution is in the problem.
Here’s two simple steps to getting exactly what you want on Valentine’s Day. If you are dating a high-quality man, this will work 99.99% of the time. I’ll even tell you word for word what you should say!
- “I know Valentine’s Day can make you feel a lot of pressure. I want you to know that I will appreciate any efforts you make. But I also don’t want you to be afraid that you don’t know what I want. So, I’ll tell you right now…what would really mean the world to me on Valentine’s Day is ____. All I really need is ____.”
- “Is there anything I can do to help make Valentine’s Day special and a success for both of us?”
That’s it!!
Make sure it is not demanding or condescending. Simply tell him honestly what would make your day and what you want. Let him know how much he enhances your life and how you’d really like to enjoy a celebration of each other.
Success during the holidays is dependent on honest and open communication. When a high-quality man knows exactly what you want, he will often surprise you by bending over backwards to make it happen.
