I used to hate spending Valentine’s Day alone. I used to hate the whole holiday in general. No joke! I had a few years of terrible Valentine’s Days…I’m talking about boyfriends who actually broke up with me the day before Valentine’s Day (who does that??) to dating guys that didn’t have a clue how to be romantic or make me feel special.
If you are dating someone and Valentine’s Day has always been a bit awkward, or a little high pressure…head to THIS blog post!
I spent a year or two being bitter about going through this holiday solo and wearing a scowl on my face UNTIL…I had a WTF moment and asked myself – why am I choosing to be miserable? What if I “showed up” for myself on Valentine’s Day and celebrated me? This was a GAME-CHANGER for me.
And you know what? I did! And I since then, I’ve had INCREDIBLE solo Valentine’s Day traditions. I’ve done something for me every year regardless of my relationship status. Last year I bought myself new jewelry and this year my biz bestie and I are going to have brunch together. I even bought her a Valentine’s Day card.
So for all of you who are lone wolfing it this Valentine’s Day, I’ve put together a little something for you.
Although it can be hard not to have someone to snuggle up with on the holiday of romantic love, you can create your own solo love story this Valentine’s Day!
A few tips if you’ll be spending Valentine’s Day alone:
1. Take Yourself To Breakfast
Spoil yourself a little by waking up and heading to your favorite breakfast spot. I like this activity for two reasons. One, it starts your day off on a good foot! And two, there’s unlikely to be many love-birds out at breakfast so you won’t feel like the odd one out. If you don’t want to go alone, invite a few friends!
2. Buy Yourself A Valentine’s Day Gift
It may sound a little cheesy, but this is the perfect opportunity for you to indulge in some serious self-love! The best part about buying your own Valentine’s Day gift? You know yourself better than anyone and can choose something you really want! Maybe you like the traditional flowers and chocolate, or maybe you’d be happier with a juicy novel. Whatever it is that will make you happy, get it for yourself.
3. Plan A Galentine’s Day
Grab your single girlfriends and plan a night for the history books. You could go out and party, see a movie, or stay in and order takeout while binge-watching shows starring your celebrity crush. No reason to sit around feeling sad when you can celebrate the love between friends!
4. Watch Some Stand-Up Comedy
Best way to spend Valentine’s Day? Laughing yourself to tears! Go to a comedy club or watch a stand-up series on Netflix. Laughter will give you all the endorphins you need to overcome Valentine’s Day blues.
5. Change Up Your Look
Have you been wanting to change your hair for a while? Get a pedicure/manicure? Try waxing? Thread your eyebrows? Many spas and salons offer V-Day Specials – take advantage!
6. REMEMBER…
You are a powerful, confident, worthy, inspiring and gorgeous woman who doesn’t need a man for validation. Everything you need to feel secure and loved is already inside you. Take the opportunity to dig deep this Valentine’s Day and renew the love you have for yourself.
